Negros Occidental Provincial Board Member Salvador Escalante, Jr. recently revealed the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) would endorse Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez if he were to run for Senate in 2019.
“Almost everyone in UNegA will support Benitez if he runs for senator,” he affirmed, adding the endorsement is not simply because he is a Negrosanon, but that he is a “qualified Negrosanon.”
Benitez, a member of rival coalition Love Negros, has also been floated as a potential candidate for governor and was earlier unanimously endorsed by the mayors of his district for a gubernatorial run; however, incumbent Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, a Love Negros partymate, also expressed interest in running for the position.
Escalante had previously indicated UNegA would back former Negros Occidental fourth district Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, who unsuccessfully ran for vice governor in 2016, for governor in the upcoming polls./WDJ
