The Marang Festival, now on its second year, officially kicked off yesterday, August 24, at the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol grounds and is set to run until tomorrow, August 26.
The festival seeks to help rural farmers sell local products, establish livelihood and business opportunities, and showcase goods created from the marang fruit.
Sagay City, Talisay City, La Carlota City, Calatrava, and La Castellana are this year’s participants, offering a variety of goods including freshly-harvested marang fruits, along with marang-based products such as ice cream, candy, polvoron, jam, caramel tarts, coffee, among other items.
Present at the opening ceremony were Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr.; Provincial Board Member Victor Javellana; Negros Occidental Acting Provincial Administrator, Dr. Lucille Gelvolea; Technology and Livelihood Development Center head Gerard Tupas; among others./WDJ
