BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd., an automobile manufacturer based in Xi’an, China, recently began their feasibility study for the proposed monorail system in Iloilo City.
“If viable, this project may address the city’s transportation concerns,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
The proposed monorail is expected to stretch from Iloilo City, through the town of Sta. Barbara, to Cabatuan, where Iloilo International Airport is located.
The mayor said, with the monorail expected to curb traffic congestion, it could be an economic boost to the region.
However, if the monorail project does not work out, BYD General Manager for Asia-Pacific Liu Xueliang said they would look into other projects, including the use of electric vehicles.
BYD Senior Manager for Asia-Pacific Benjamin Zhao added the results of the study will be presented to the Iloilo City Council./WDJ
