Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, recently revealed Barangays 1, 2, 31, Banago, and Singcang-Airport were declared areas of concern for illegal drugs.
Due to the declaration, Wanky challenged barangay officials to follow the example set by the three barangays previously declared drug-cleared.
Last week, during the third quarterly meeting of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), the oversight committee declared Bacolod City Barangays 5, 24, and 41 drug-cleared.
A drug-cleared declaration is provided following drug-clearing operations by the CADAC oversight committee and once a barangay has fulfilled a set of parameters determined by the Dangerous Drugs Board.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Liga ng mga Barangay President and Barangay Tangub Captain Noli Villarosa called for a meeting with officials from the 61 city barangays, the BCPO, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to discuss the situation.
Aside from illegal drugs, Wanky said the meeting is also an opportunity to discuss other crimes, including the rising number of robbery incidents in the city.
In addition to the three barangays declared drug-cleared, the barangays of Cabug, Felisa, and Handumanan are currently under consideration for the same declaration after CADAC completes their evaluations next month./WDJ
