During the recent Kumpas Barangay event at the Barangay Granada hall, after residents complained about vendors clogging local streets, Barangay Granada Captain Alfredo Talimodao, Jr. asked for leniency, saying the presence of the vendors bolsters free enterprise.
“The more merchandise is present, the more people have choices, and prices could go down,” he stated.
Last year, after Central Market vendors set up shop along Luzuriaga and Bonifacio streets, the city relocated them in an effort to alleviate traffic.
Also addressed during the event were requests for medical missions and the call for the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to address non-membership of tricycle operators in the local tricycle drivers and operators’ association.
The first Kumpas Barangay, a barangay interaction program created by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, in Bacolod City was held in Barangay Singcang-Airport back in March and was attended by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar./WDJ
