Sipalay City and Hinoba-an, both in Negros Occidental, were rocked by eight earthquakes over the weekend.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the first quake struck Hinoba-an around 8:58 a.m. last Friday, with a magnitude of 3.0.
This was followed by two additional small tremors of magnitude 3.9 and 2.9.
That evening, around 11:39 p.m., Phivolcs recorded another quake in the town, with a magnitude of 4.4, followed by a 3.2-magnitude aftershock about an hour later.
Three more quakes, with magnitudes of 3.8 and 3.0, were also noted on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, an eighth tremor, measuring a magnitude of 2.2, registered in Sipalay City, yesterday afternoon.
Phivolcs said the tremors were all tectonic in origin, with the epicenters located off the coast of Southern Negros in the Negros trench, which has been noted to be an earthquake-generating trench.
Authorities expect no damages from the small quakes./WDJ
