Laborer found dead in Amlan

The remains of a laborer were found in a sugarcane field in Barangay Jantianon, Amlan, Negros Oriental, late Sunday evening.
Police identified the fatality as 32-year-old Cerelo Elardo, a laborer and resident of said barangay.
The Amlan Municipal Police Station said a concerned citizen reported a body was found at the stated location around 10:10 p.m.
The station, led by Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Russel Leigh Reyes, responded to the call and saw a large wound to Elardo’s head, which they speculate contributed to his death.
Following an investigation by police, it was determined the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m., when Elardo was struck with a large stone by unidentified suspects.
The body was brought to Tabunda Funeral Home in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental for a postmortem examination.
A follow-up investigation is currently being conducted by the Amlan Municipal Police Station into the identification and possible arrest of the suspects./WDJ
