A suspected gunrunner was arrested by operatives from the Negros Occidental Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) after he reportedly tried to sell a shotgun at the Bredco Port in the Reclamation Area, Bacolod City, late Thursday evening.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Peter John Miro, a truck driver and resident of Sitio Pulakan, Barangay Agtabo, Passi, Iloilo.
Based on a radio interview yesterday morning, CIDG operatives planned to entrap the suspect after fixing a deal to purchase a 12-gauge shotgun.
On the night of the operation, Miro arrived around 12 midnight on Friday, August 10, via the Dumangas port, and immediately proceeded to a convenience store where the deal would be made.
CIDG operatives moved in after the suspect handed the 12-gauge Armscor shotgun to an undercover cop, in exchange for P20,000.
According to the operatives, Miro reportedly acquires his firearms from contacts in Danao, Cebu, wherein he smuggles the firearms in his truck and sells them to prospective buyers in Panay and Negros.
Miro currently faces charges for the illegal possession and sale of firearms and is presently incarcerated at the CIDG Regional office inside Camp Alfredo Montelibano, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City./WDJ
