Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. expressed optimism over the retention of the Negros Island Region (NIR), despite uncertainty over its inclusion in the proposed 2018 national budget.
In a recent interview, Marañon said he is not closing the door as there are many politicians who are supportive of NIR’s retention.
Marañon said they have already done so much for the region.
“If it is not included in the 2018 budget, then the funds for Negros Occidental will be taken from Region 6, while that of Negros Oriental will be sourced from Region 7,” the governor said.
Marañon is also hoping the Negros bloc in the House of Representatives will discuss the issue of NIR before the 2018 national budget is forwarded to the Senate.
Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya earlier declared the Negros Bloc already vowed to push for the inclusion of NIR in the 2018 national budget/WDJ
