During the recent Visayan Sea Summit on Sicogon Island, part of Carles, Iloilo, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. pitched the idea of a crab hatchery, currently utilized in his province, to Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr., as a means of reviving crab production.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo will send an aquaculture, or aquafarming, team to Escalante City, home to a hatchery where one host crab is said to produce one million eggs.
