After the killing of Guihulngan City police chief, Police Superintendent Arnel Arpon, in an ambush by the New People’s Army (NPA) last week, the mayor of his hometown, Hinoba-an, said the municipality is in mourning.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo-Bacolod over the weekend, Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao said Arpon was a resident of Barangay Poblacion II.
The mayor said local residents are saddened by the news, calling the fallen officer “humble.”
He noted, Arpon could have been the first police general from the town.
Last Friday, Arpon, along with five other police officers and an aide to Guihulngan City Councilor Edison Dela Rita, were killed after they were attacked by the NPA at Sitio Mandi-e, Barangay Magsaysay, Guihulngan City.
Three cops were also wounded in the battle./WDJ
