Residents of Barangay Pahanocoy spotted a beached whale yesterday afternoon.
In a report by Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, Barangay Pahanocoy Kagawad Boyet Nessia said barangay officials contacted the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) after making the discovery.
However, he noted, local residents, instead of immediately contacting authorities, took selfies with the whale, which had wounds across its body.
Barangay officials, meanwhile, took measurements of the whale, which estimated its length to be around 10 feet and weighing around 350 kilograms.
As of press time, BFAR has yet to make an official statement regarding the whale’s status./WDJ
