World Boxing Organization (WBO) President Francisco Valcarcel recently ordered a review of the July 2 welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn.
The original result saw Horn win via unanimous decision.
Valcarcel explained the review would provide clarity regarding the judges’ decision, however, despite the results of the review, the initial decision will stand.
“WBO does not have jurisdiction in the first instance to revoke any decision,” he stated.
The Philippines Games and Amusements Board (GAB), headed by Chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra, earlier submitted a request for a review.
“While we respect the decision, we are constrained to request for a thorough review by the WBO to identify possible miscalls of the referee,” the organization said in a previously released statement.
They also called for a probe into the judges, questioning “varying opinions on their objectivity.”/WDJ
