Former San Sebastian Cathedral Rector, Father Felix Pasquin, slammed House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez over a proposal to legalize “civil unions” for same-sex couples.
Pasquin called the move a “travesty of God’s intent in instituting the sacrament of marriage.”
He quoted the book of Genesis in claiming marriage is between a man and a woman.
Pasquin continued, one end of marriage in God’s plan is procreation, which he explained is impossible between persons of the same sex.
“The church, as teacher of the faith, has firmly reiterated God’s plan for marriage,” he said.
Pasquin also clarified he is not speaking on behalf of the Diocese of Bacolod.
As of press time, the diocese has yet to comment on the Alvarez plan.
Based on the Speaker’s bill, he seeks to define the rights of couples who want to live together, but are not yet ready to get married.
He said the bill would govern property rights, custodial rights over children, and adoption rights for childless couples.
The speaker previously explained same-sex couples would be allowed to adopt a child./WDJ
