In the wake of Manny Pacquaio’s loss in Brisbane, Australia – a fight that many still believe was stolen from the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion – many are expecting a rematch with the new WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn.
If it were to happen, Horn wants it on his home turf again, Australia. Pacquiao wants it in the Philippines.
However, while many would love to see the “Pambansang Kamao” avenge his loss, there are just as many who wish to see him hang up his gloves.
Speaking with Rev. Henry Guanzon of JR Eagles Promotions, a veteran boxing promoter, he believes Pacquiao should start thinking about retirement.
“His age has caught up with him and it could not be denied during his fight with Horn,” he stated.
Guanzon noted, Pacquiao has already proven himself among the legends of the sport and, as an eight-division world champion, he has already written himself into the history books of boxing.
What more can we ask of Pacquiao? He has given our country so much pride and honor over the last two decades.
At 38 years old, he has already achieved many things his contemporaries have yet to reach.
The loss to Horn may not only be a signal to retire, but a message for the boxer to spend more time to himself and his family.
In the end, however, it’s still Pacquiao’s decision./WDJ
