Following a memorandum reportedly from the Philippine National Police (PNP) warning of possible terror attacks on June 30 being deemed a hoax by local police, Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, appealed to social media users to stop posting fake or unverified information.
“We have to be responsible with what we post or share,” she said. “Yes, it can raise awareness; it can also create panic.”
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Roderick Garcia, battalion commander of the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion stationed in Negros Oriental, affirmed troops are conducting preventive security measures, especially at vital installations like seaports and airports.
Garcia also encouraged the public to enjoy the weekend, expressing confidence the region is safe./WDJ
