During a forum at the Diocese of Bacolod Social Action Center yesterday, United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) Secretary-General Diego Malacad said his group has urged local congressional representatives to probe the modernization program being pushed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
He noted, Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya already pledged his support and assured the transport sector he would express their grievances over the new law.
The congressman, however, noted, despite sympathizing with the transport sector, he suggested to wait for the final guidelines from the DOTr first.
Gasataya said he has yet to be informed if Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade signed the Omnibus Franchising guidelines.
Earlier, the transport sector and the diocese called for a unity forum in order to discuss the transport law which aims to phase out all public utility vehicles (PUV) that are at least 15 years old./WDJ
