The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reportedly has three suspected members of the Maute terrorist group in custody.
Lieutenant Edison Diaz, PCG-Iloilo chief, said two men and a woman were apprehended at the Port of Iloilo in Iloilo City Sunday afternoon.
The trio were aboard a 2Go passenger vessel from Cagayan de Oro and were bound for Manila.
Diaz said the trio are currently being questioned by investigators of both the PCG and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Diaz said they are currently in their custody but are not under arrest as authorities are verifying their identities. The lady, he noted, is suspected to be a sibling of the Maute brothers.
According to Diaz, PCG-Iloilo acted on information from the PCG of Northern Mindanao.
This development came hours after the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked a PNP station in Maasin town, about 36 kilometers from Iloilo City.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog placed his city under red alert status as a precautionary measure./WDJ
