In light of last week’s jailbreak, Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan advised the local Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) yesterday to review its security protocol.
Tan, who serves as chairman of Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee on Police Matters, said it is the responsibility of jail guards to regularly and thoroughly inspect jail cells, adding all visitors should be checked to ensure no contraband enters the facility.
The incident, Tan noted, should be a lesson to jail guards, saying they should be on the watch around the clock, especially on those tagged as “too dangerous.”
Last week, three inmates, identified as Noli Dega, Marlon Molina, and Ebson Jain, escaped from the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ).
Jain was recaptured by BJMP personnel within minutes, while Dega was nabbed in Cadiz City after being tracked down by police 10 days later.
Molina, however, remains at large and is said to be hiding in Bacolod City./WDJ
