The two men arrested after they allegedly sped through a police checkpoint have tested positive for illicit substances, according to the Regional Highway Patrol Group-18 (RHPG-18).
RHPG-18 spokesperson Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Jewel Belarmino said Cyrus Canlas and Christian Parreno underwent drug tests following their arrest and tested positive on Thursday.
Belarmino said Canlas was identified as a drug target for Police Station 8 (PS8) and was a previous surrenderee of “Oplan: Tokhang.”
He also confirmed they charged both suspects of resisting arrest and possession of illegal drugs.
Canlas’ brown Honda Civic is also being verified before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to determine if the car was also used in other illegal activities.
Belarmino added the suspects also rammed four vehicles when they tried to evade capture, and the owners have recently visited their office in order to file a complaint against the two suspects.
Earlier on Wednesday, Canlas and Parreno sped through a security checkpoint set up by RHPG-18 in front of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) headquarters, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.
A police chase ensued through the streets in Bacolod City until both suspects were cornered along Araneta-Magsaysay Streets.
A search of the vehicle yielded one sachet of suspected shabu and cash amounting to P44,880, which police now suspect to be drug money./WDJ
