Two were arrested by members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) after allegedly running through a police checkpoint in front of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) headquarters, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City, yesterday morning.
Police identified the suspects as 21-year-old Cyrus Canlas of Barangay Pahanocoy and Christian Parreno, 24, of Barangay 30, Bacolod City.
HPG-Negros spokesperson, Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Jewel Belarmino, said they were conducting a security checkpoint when they tried to stop Canlas’ brown Honda Civic.
However, the suspects allegedly ignored the order and sped past the checkpoint, prompting several members of the HPG to engage in a car chase.
HPG personnel later managed to corner the vehicles at Araneta-Magsaysay Streets, resulting in their arrest.
A search of the vehicle yielded one sachet of suspected shabu and cash amounting to P44,880.
Both suspects could face criminal charges, including possession of illegal drugs./WDJ
