Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Master Sander Severino of Silay City followed up his win at the 2017 Negros Closed Chess Tournament by capturing the Negros Chess Encounter 2017, a part of the San Carlos City charter day celebration.
Severino took home P15,000 and a trophy, while second place winner Edsel Montoya won P10,000 and third place finisher Danmaersk Mangao earned P5,000.
“I’m so happy for the win,” said Severino. “I think I’m just fortunate that my confidence level was quite high after winning the Negros Closed.”
The Silay City chess player is next eyeing the upcoming Negros International Open Chess Championship, which is scheduled from October 11 to 19./WDJ
