With the 2016-2017 academic year underway as of Monday, a new season for school-based sports is also open.
Following changes made to the competition format for the Negros Island Region (NIR) earlier this year, various schools divisions and the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) have already begun preparations for division meets and the Palarong NIR.
Every year, expectations are high and the challenges are tough for student-athletes and, as usual, there is plenty of room for improvement.
Aside from the athletic challenges, the education sector is also facing a shortage of school buildings. While it’s true the government has pushed through on hundreds of new buildings across the country, the work is still not done. These deficiencies have caused some schools to make adjustments to class schedules in order to accommodate students.
Hopefully, this problem is addressed as soon as possible./WDJ
