According to Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, the Marikudo Real Estate Development Corporation proposed the reclamation of 364 hectares of land for two manmade islands to be placed in the Iloilo Strait, the body of water that separates Iloilo City from Guimaras.
The proposal also covers bridges that will connect the two islands, as well as Iloilo City.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez said there is a need to reclaim and create a land for further development, adding, the proposed reclamation also aims to curb the conversion of agricultural lands into commercial, residential or industrial areas.
He said the city government of Iloilo will evaluate the proposal prior to endorsing it to Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) and National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)./WDJ
