The Philippine National Police (PNP) has urged hotels, resorts, malls, and other highly populated establishments in Western Visayas region to review emergency procedures.
This was the appeal of Supt. Gilbert Gorero, spokesman of Police Regional Office Region VI (PRO-6).
Gorero said last Friday’s deadly incident at Resorts World Manila has shown lapses in security and emergency measures. Most people died from suffocation when they were trapped inside after the lone armed attacker stormed the casino and lit parts of the establishment on fire.
The police in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces will evaluate measures conducted by security agencies.
After the inspection, simulation exercises will be conducted with emphasis on teaching employees how to respond to emergency situations.
“As workers, they should be the one guiding their clients where exit points are. They should know what to do and not add to the panic,” Gorero stressed./WDJ
