The Diocese of Bacolod’s Social Action Center (SAC) will join the scheduled transport strike, which will be led by the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC), today.
In a report by TV Patrol-Negros, SAC Director Fr. Cris Gonzales said the planned phase out of old Public Utility Vehicles (PUV) aging 15 years and above is “one sided.”
Gonzales explained, the new transport law is only favoring the rich and big transport companies capable of replacing their vehicles easily.
He also added the law will be a heavy burden to the overwhelming majority of small scale transport services.
Meanwhile, UNDOC Secretary-general Diego Malacad said they will push through, citing it was already set by its mother organization, PISTON.
“It has been organized and synchronized nationwide. We would like to appeal to everyone to cooperate with us because this will affect everyone if there will be no transport vehicles left on the roads,” Malacad said.
Malacad has announced the strike would start at 4 a.m. and will end tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m./WDJ
