Both the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are on full alert in Western Visayas region, following the terrorist attack in Marawi City.
Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6), said their office is closely coordinating with the AFP.
Police presence has been beefed up at malls, seaports, airports, transportation terminals, and other key areas in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces.
Binag assured, the PNP and other law enforcement agencies are also prepared to protect popular resort location, Boracay Island, located in Aklan.
The PRO-6 director noted, he was in Boracay last May 20, when Joint Task Force-Boracay was launched in order to strengthen counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping measures.
Binag also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities to authorities.
