A 61-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a taxi along the Provincial Road in Barangay Pandanon-Silos, Murcia, Negros Occidental, late Monday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Belinda Sacil, a resident of Purok Tangke in the said barangay.
Murcia police traffic investigator, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Jerson Cuizon, said the taxi, driven by 45-year-old Nestor Bayono, was traveling southwest on a descending road when he accidentally bumped Sacil, who was just standing beside the road.
The taxi swerved into a parked tricycle before coming to a stop at a concrete fence.
Local residents rushed Sacil to the Murcia Rural Health Clinic and later to the Bacolod City Adventist Medical Center (BAMC) for treatment, but Sacil later succumbed to multiple injuries.
Bayono, meanwhile, surrendered to Murcia police following the accident and may face charges of vehicular manslaughter and damage to property./WDJ
