Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) Principal Mario Amaca, met with Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., yesterday, seeking assistance for their unfinished classrooms.
Amaca said the school is prepared for the opening of classes on June 5, but pointed out one of the buildings that is supposed to host around 40 classrooms is only 70 percent finished.
He said, during the meeting, Marañon called the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to speed up construction.
Amaca stated the new building was supposed to house incoming Grade 11 and 12 students and, since it is still unfinished, they have requested the Department of Education-Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) for permission to conduct classes in shifts.
“Grade 11 students will have their classes from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while Grade 12 will have their classes from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00p.m.,” Amaca said.
The class shifts are expected to be temporary, held until the new classrooms are finished, expected around late June or early July.
Meanwhile, Amaca confirmed they will receive two donated vehicles from the Provincial Government, which will be used for instructional purposes for Senior High School students taking up Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) subjects./WDJ
