Both the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) are now probing if there is a new drug group operating in Bacolod City, after P3 million worth of shabu were recovered in Barangay 1, late Tuesday evening.
Police Senior Supt. Jack Wanky, acting director of the BCPO, said PS2 was targeting 43-year-old Reynante Villanueva, a newly identified drug dealer in the area.
However, Villanueva managed to escape after sensing he was dealing with an undercover cop, even when police fired a warning shot in an attempt to arrest him.
Villanueva is believed to be armed, according to police.
Wanky, however, stated they arrested Villanueva’s wife Julie and Jan Deocampo who were allegedly packing shabu inside the suspect’s house.
Based on the new information they received, Wanky said supplies of shabu are being distributed in Barangay 1 and Banago.
He explained they have been expecting to haul large amounts of shabu in the area, and noted it is the first time they have confiscated such an amount.
“We have stumbled upon this big drug catch because of the cooperation of the people especially in drug affected barangays,” Wanky added.
PRO-18 Director Police Chief Supt. Renato Gumban, meanwhile, believes some of the cops in the city may still be trying to protect drug groups in Bacolod, so he made orders to the intelligence group to monitor erring cops.
“I’m sure there are still some cops left in the city that are involved in illegal drugs activity,” Gumban said.
Gumban also urged the public to contact him at 09188001985 if they suspect someone is involved in illegal drugs, adding the recent raid in Barangay 1 was tipped off directly to him./WDJ
