A farmer was declared dead after he was allegedly mauled to death by a local resident of Barangay Anibong, Ayungon, Negros Oriental, Friday morning.
Police identified the fatality as 51-year-old Judy Balbon, a resident of the said barangay.
Ayungon town police said Balbon, who was drunk at the time of the incident, allegedly provoked the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Ariel Argoncillo, while he was walking along the national highway.
Unable to tolerate the provocation, Argoncillo allegedly assaulted Balbon by punching him and knocking the victim down, hitting the ground head first.
Balbon was rushed to the Bindoy District Hospital, where he later succumbed to a severe head injury on Friday evening.
Argoncillo, meanwhile, was arrested by Ayungon police and could face the criminal charge of homicide./WDJ
