EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon, while speaking with the press yesterday to discuss the status of his administration after being in office for 10 months, revealed his municipality spends at least P30,000 a day on social welfare programs.
Intended to fund medicine, hospitalization, and burials, Malacon said the town receives P6 million a year in an internal revenue allotment (IRA). However, with spending quoted at a minimum of P30,000 per day, at five days a week, the allocation would be able to cover 200 days out of an estimated 260 days a year, leading to a shortfall of around P1.8 million.
He also discussed a market renovation project, which he quoted at P100 million, saying the second floor of the town’s market is being considered for a tourist inn.
Renovations of the town plaza are already underway, along with the public stage.
The mayor also revealed plans to purchase two buses, which are intended to transport college students to and from Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, Malacon noted the town recently was also the recipient of three Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) fire trucks, two rescue vehicles, and three ambulances for the town’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), among other vehicles./WDJ
