A resolution was approved last week by the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) intended to intensify enforcement of fishery laws.
According to City Councilor Bart Orola, author of the resolution, “To stop illegal fishing, safeguard the livelihood of the fisherfolk, protect the environment, and rehabilitate existing fishing grounds along coastal areas, Bantay Dagat enforcement of fishery laws must be intensified, strictly reinforced, and implemented.”
He added, his key development agenda is to protect and conserve all marine life, and enforce strict measures against illegal fishermen.
Orola also believes protecting the environment could bring about a sustainable fishing industry./WDJ
