One of the two jail inmates who escaped the Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City was recaptured by members of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, yesterday.
The recaptured escapee was identified as Ramon Ventura, Jr., who is convicted on carnapping charges.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) District Warden, Jail Chief Inspector Ruth Garcia-Estales, said Ventura was recaptured after he reportedly surrendered to a relative in Murcia and was handed over to police.
Estales also said, based on eyewitness accounts, the other escapee, Vercilito Capulong, was last seen riding a black XRM motorcycle.
She stressed, however, they are still trying to identify the motorcycle’s plate number.
An investigation by the BJMP also determined the two inmates escaped the district jail by climbing the walls using a ladder.
She explained the ladder was being used by Bago City workers who are currently conducting a water drilling project inside the facility.
Ventura has since been returned to the district jail, while police are still on the lookout for Capulong./WDJ
