Both the city government of Bacolod and the provincial government of Negros Occidental issued orders to employees to follow the regular business schedule for the Holy Week.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he hopes the majority of city hall employees do not take early vacation leave as part of the Holy Week break, which officially starts on Thursday.
Leonardia said, previously, government offices took long breaks during the Holy Week. However, this year, he said offices are being asked to follow regular office hours through Wednesday, and to not employ a “skeleton crew.”
Additionally, in a memorandum sent to barangay captains, the mayor requested they uphold and maintain peace and order throughout Holy Week, calling it a way to “respect the practices of the Christian faith.”
He also asked that they keep their respective jurisdictions clean and to keep their constituents abreast of necessary precautions, in particular, during days of intense heat.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Acting Provincial Administrator Lucile Gelvolea also told provincial employees they are not allowed to take half-days on Wednesday and they are only allowed to leave their posts once the normal working day is over./WDJ
