Former Himamaylan City Police chief, Police Superintendent Antonietto Cañete, denied allegations by former Berya drug group member Ricky Serenio accusing him of receiving protection money.
In a radio interview yesterday, he denied receiving protection money at a shopping mall in Bacolod City in 2016, and challenged Serenio to a one-on-one media interview.
“If he can answer my three questions correctly, I will allow myself to be shot in a firing squad,” Cañete said.
He also urged Serenio to “tell the whole truth,” adding he can prove his innocence “1,000 percent,” claiming it is the first time his name was implicated in the illegal drug trade.
Earlier, Cañete, along with five other cops in Negros Occidental, were named in Serenio’s supplemental affidavit, which was released last week.
Cañete was relieved from his post and was transferred to the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU-18) while an investigation is ongoing./WDJ
