Two major road accidents were recorded by police in Bacolod City and the town of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental over the weekend, which resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
Police identified the fatality as 50-year-old Noli Delos Reyes, a resident of Hinoba-an, while the two wounded were identified as Tanya Nerpiol, 35, and John Ruel San Miguel, both residents of Pedrosa, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.
The first recorded incident happened on Saturday, when Delos Reyes was burned to death when his tricycle collided with a van along the highway at Sitio Totong, Barangay Talacagay in the said town.
Hinoba-an municipal police traffic investigator, Police Officer 1 (PO1) Cyrus Maquiling, said the van, driven by 46-year-old Live Alcos, did not see Delos Reyes’ tricycle turning, which resulted in the collision.
Maquiling explained, following the collision, the tricycle exploded due to a leaking fuel tank.
Five others were injured, but only suffered from minor injuries.
Alcos was detained by police shortly after the incident.
Maquiling added they are still awaiting the decision from the victims’ families if they are going to file criminal charges against him.
Meanwhile, in Bacolod City, Nerpiol and San Miguel were injured after a trailer truck flipped and crashed into a row of houses along Pedrosa, Barangay Alijis, yesterday afternoon.
Police Station 7 (PS7) traffic investigator, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Jesar Nepocpan, said, based on their initial investigation, the truck, driven by 51-year-old Fernando Andrin, was driving too fast while executing a turn along the highway.
The trailer, which was carrying sugarcane, flipped and crashed into a row of residential houses, injuring the two victims.
Both Nerpiol and San Miguel were rushed to the Bacolod City Adventist Medical Center (BAMC) for treatment, while Andrin was detained by members of PS7.
The truck driver could face charges of damage to property and multiple physical injuries./WDJ
