Following a vote of the general assembly yesterday at the Barangay Villamonte gymnasium, the Bacolod City Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Bacgem) postponed elections.
According to General Services Office (GSO) head Jerome Solinap, who serves as Bacgem board chairman, the election was supposed to be part of the assembly until a member motioned for its postponement.
The motion was made as it was unclear if Solinap was disqualified by the election committee on the grounds of “overstaying,” the GSO head confirmed.
He explained, after first being elected in 2011, the rules on serving three terms took effect in 2012 and the “count” for a third term should begin in 2012.
Solinap has since filed a complaint since the disqualification notice came 15 hours before the scheduled elections.
The election was canceled after putting it to a vote, with the motion winning 371 to 73.
In the meantime, with no elections, the board will remain at “status quo.”
Bacgem has more than 800 active members, all of whom are employees of the city government./WDJ
