A fisherman was brought to the Bais City District Hospital after he was hacked by three suspects during a scuffle over a fishing spot at Sitio Sanlagan, Barangay Okiot, Bais City, Negros Oriental, Tuesday morning.
Police identified the victim as 49-year-old Armando Gutual, a resident of Sitio Canibol in the said barangay; and his minor nephew, whom police have not named.
Bais City police said Gutual and his nephew arrived near a fishpen owned by the three suspects, identified as Larry Jorolan, Junifer Bacang, and Larryno Jorolan, around 9:00 a.m. in their small boat.
As Gutual set his fishing net outside the fish pen, the suspects approached them in a separate boat and started taking turns hacking the two.
Both victims managed to escape their attackers and Gutual was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a hack wound on the left leg.
His nephew, meanwhile, was unharmed and notified the police of the incident.
A follow-up operation was immediately conducted which led to the arrest of the three suspects.
Police are now preparing criminal charges against the three, who are currently detained at the Bais City Police Station./WDJ
