Ceres-Negros FC goalkeeper Roland Müller announced his retirement from the national team, yesterday, prior to the Philippines-Malaysia friendly at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
“Time to take care of my own family,” he said.
“Six years ago, I made my first game for the Azkals – a new experience gave me the chance to see a part of my roots and meet teammates who became like brothers,” the Ceres keeper elaborated. “I will be forever proud to have played for this beautiful country.”
“I will be always an Azkal,” he added.
Müller started his national team duty in 2011 as the Philippines U23 keeper during the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia, as well as serving among the top keepers of the men’s team for six years, earning a total 22 caps.
With Müller’s exit, Global FC reserve keeper Nick O’Donnell was added to the roster./WDJ
