Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano said they are now rallying support inside the House of Representatives over his impeachment case against President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a press conference, yesterday afternoon, he said, regardless of the content of the complaint, it will come down to the number of signatures they get.
He said they are not making up the allegations against the president, claiming the current administration is “shrouded in lies.”
“We are not playing with politics here, we are serious and we have the track record of standing up against corrupt people in government,” Alejano emphasized.
Alejano also said their cause is “mission-oriented” and claimed there are other congressmen also against Duterte’s policies.
When asked if the congressmen who are supporting his call for impeachment or destabilization backed by alleged drug lords, Alejano stated they are supportive of the campaign against illegal drugs.
However, he stressed, everything must go through the proper process.
The congressman also accused the administration of “not facing the real issues and problems of the country” and would rather divert from it.
Last week, Alejano filed a 16-page complaint before the House of Representatives Office of the Secretary-General against Duterte, on the grounds of culpable violation of the constitution, engaging in bribery, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and “other high crimes.”
The case stemmed over allegations of giving up the country’s sovereign rights over the Benham Rise, an underwater landmass located off the coast of Quezon and Aurora provinces, against China.
The congressman also accused Duterte of committing “illegal acts” as mayor of Davao City through his alleged involvement in the killing of more than 1,400 people, as the supposed leader of the Davao Death Squad./WDJ
