The suspect responsible for the death of a teacher at Sitio Cabadiangan, Barangay Camandag, La Castellana town, Negros Occidental, over the weekend, surrendered to police after spending almost three days on the run.
La Castellana police said 24-year-old Pedro Pacia, the suspect in the stabbing of Hernani Octavio, surrendered to police while being escorted by his family.
In a radio interview, Pacia said he couldn’t bear with his conscience after accidentally killing Octavio during a scuffle at a town dance event, citing as the reason for his surrender.
Pacia said both he and Octavio were on good terms and did not have any conflicts.
He claimed to have “lost himself” after seeing Octavio punching his sibling, which led to the stabbing.
Pacia said, after the incident, he decided to run away and hide in fear of reprisal from Octavio’s family.
Town police chief, Police Chief Inspector Alan Gary Resuma, meanwhile, said they are now gathering evidence and eyewitness testimony.
Resuma added they will let the court decide the appropriate criminal charges against Pacia.
The suspect is currently detained at the La Castellana Municipal Police Station./WDJ
