A grenade was found by road workers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), yesterday, near a creek at Gatuslao-San Juan Streets, Bacolod City.
Bacolod City Police Office-Explosive Ordnance and Disposal Unit (BCPO-EODU) member and bomb expert Demi Montoya said the workers were conducting excavation work on a bridge when one of the workers noticed a plastic container.
The worker found a Mk.2 “Pineapple type” fragmentation grenade inside.
DPWH workers immediately stopped their work and notified Police Station 1 (PS1) of the find.
The BCPO-EODU was later called in and Montoya taped the safety pin of the grenade to prevent it from going off.
Montoya added there is a likely chance the grenade is still active since the inside of the container was dry./WDJ
