With the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) preparing for a special election in the co-op’s District 4, which covers Bacolod City-East that includes Barangays Villamonte, Montevista, Alangilan, Granada, Estefania, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan, and Abkasa, General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) Secretary-General Wennie Sancho was disqualified from candidacy for a second time.
According to reports, his disqualification was based on the same reason as the first, he failed to submit a certification from the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-Region VI (RTWPB-6), where he is affiliated.
“I am an ex-officio already, as a labor representative to the RTWPB in Region 6,” Sancho explained. “I don’t have a salary.”
He has since said he will file a motion for reconsideration before the screening committee.
Meanwhile, Former Board of Director member Roy Cordova, who was also previously disqualified, was approved for candidacy.
“Cordova will be unopposed and the special election will go on,” declared Ceneco Consumer Services Division chief Roel Venus.
Cordova was previously disqualified following a case surrounding a delayed refund of P159,000 to the National Electrification Administration.
In District 5, which is comprised of Bacolod City-West, including Barangays 8-16, 21, 34-39, and Singcang-Airport, where no qualified candidates stepped forward in the initial election, Ceneco Public Relations Officer Malou Parroco previously confirmed no candidates expressed interest in running in the special election./WDJ
