A female employee of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is facing graft and corruption charges after she was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) inside the BIR Office, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, Wednesday morning.
NBI agents identified the suspect as Julie Hernaez, assigned on the local BIR office’s Revenue District Office’s Assessment Section.
NBI Special Agent William de Arca said they conducted the operation after receiving a complaint from the JP Ramos Trading Corporation alleging Hernaez asked for an additional P125,000 for the company’s corporate tax obligation, in exchange for a tax form.
De Arca posed as a company representative and handed over a P100,000 check and P25,000 to Hernaez inside the premises of the BIR.
After confirming the handover, NBI agents immediately arrested the suspect on the spot.
Hernaez is currently under the custody of the NBI./WDJ
