Security organizers for the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, set to hold meetings in Bacolod City from March 21 to 23, will temporarily ban the use of helmets.
In a report by Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod yesterday, organizers said the move aims to reduce the number of criminal incidents committed by riding-in-tandem suspects who normally wear helmets, or bonnets, when conducting their criminal activity.
However, following the ASEAN meetings, starting on March 27, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), announced they will strictly implement the “No Helmet, No Travel policy.”
Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, said the 10 police stations in the city will set up several checkpoints to oversee the implementation.
Besides the checkpoints, Acebuche added, police were also ordered to apprehend motorcycle drivers who are seen not wearing their helmets./WDJ
