Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) director, Police Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, said he is looking to form police K-9 units to help in the fight against illegal drugs in the Negros Island Region (NIR) and other police regional offices in the country.
According to Gumban, there are currently not enough K-9 units and they have to rely on other agencies and units, like those coming from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) or the Bacolod-Silay Airport Aviation Security Group.
“We are currently talking with the higher-ups in Camp Crame to introduce K-9 units for the regional offices to help [combat the smuggling of illegal drugs] in ports,” he said.
Previously, Berya drug group member Ricky Serenio revealed how shabu is being smuggled into the province, by using the tires of trucks entering the San Carlos City port, from Toledo City, Cebu.
Upon receiving the information, PCG-Bacolod Station Commander, Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Oliver Vingno, immediately ordered the PCG-San Carlos Station to conduct random checks on trucks entering and exiting the port.
Serenio claimed the supply of illegal drugs comes directly from Marawi City, in Mindanao, where Gumban believes a mega shabu lab is operating./WDJ
