The Diocese of Bacolod, yesterday, lauded Negros Occidental Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer for voting against the reinstatement of the death penalty.
Diocese social communications head, Rev. Fr. Felix Pasquin, credited Ferrer’s “good conscience” and said she is “following God’s rule.”
Ferrer was the only Negros Occidental representative to vote against House Bill 4727 before the bill was passed by the House of Representatives.
Pasquin, meanwhile, expressed sadness over the other Negros Occidental congressmen, who have voted for its reimposition, saying they were “swayed by politics, especially those belonging in the super majority.”
On Wednesday of last week, the House of Representatives approved the death penalty bill on its second reading.
However, President Rodrigo Duterte is questioning the bill after the members of congress removed treason, plunder, and rape as crimes punishable by death./WDJ
