Amid the ongoing autopsy of Mary Joy Geronca, the pregnant woman who died along with her twin babies while in the care of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) staff earlier this year, National Bureau of Investigation-Bacolod (NBI-Bacolod) head, Atty. Renoir Baldovino, called for a Negros Island Region (NIR) medicolegal officer.
With the current medicolegal officer being dispatched from Region 6, the NBI head believes a separate officer for NIR is necessary in order to conduct immediate investigations.
Meanwhile, he said his agency is still awaiting autopsy results before looking further into the situation.
“We will determine if the results merit the filing of the case or not,” Baldovino said.
According to CLMMRH chief, Dr. Julius Drilon, Geronca was brought to the emergency room on January 16, around 6:30 p.m., after experiencing cardiac arrest and was not breathing.
She died the next morning, with her twins still inside her.
Bacolod City Councilor Atty. Renecito Novero later hinted there is the possibility for criminal charges to be filed against the hospital, but the case would only have merit if there is enough evidence to prove there was negligence from hospital personnel.
Task Force Crusaders (TFC) Acting National Commander John Chiong had previously filed a complaint claiming the hospital was negligent./WDJ
