A 58-year-old man who previously served time in prison for a murder case was shot and killed in an ambush in Negros Occidental’s Bago City on Sunday afternoon, March 15.
The victim was identified as Freddie Coronio, a resident of Purok Matam-is in Barangay Busay.
Bago police chief Lt. Colonel James Latayon, Jr. said the victim was riding his motorcycle around 5:00 p.m. when the suspect, who was also on a motorcycle, allegedly waited for him along the road.
Police said the gunman fired three times at Coronio, fatally wounding him.
Investigators also revealed that Coronio had previously been imprisoned for a murder case.
After his release last year, he was allegedly involved in another killing incident, but the victim’s family reportedly chose not to pursue a case against him.
Latayon added that based on information from the victim’s sibling, Coronio had received threats prior to the shooting, which could be linked to the attack.
Authorities recovered one empty shell and two live rounds believed to be from a .45 caliber firearm at the crime scene.
City police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the suspect./CJ, WDJ
